Getting started
PocketNFC works out of the box with your iPhone's built-in NFC — no pairing required. Open the app, tap the iPhone tab, and hold a tag to the top of your phone to read it.
Connecting an ACR1555U or ACR1255U
- Make sure the reader is charged and Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone.
- Open the ACR tab and tap Scan — PocketNFC will list nearby readers.
- Select your reader to pair. Once connected, the status pill shows battery and firmware.
- If the reader won't show up, forget it in iOS Settings → Bluetooth and re-pair from within PocketNFC.
Connecting a Chameleon Ultra
- Enable Bluetooth on the Chameleon Ultra and on your iPhone.
- Open the Ultra tab and tap Scan to find nearby devices.
- Once connected, use the Tools grid for Magic Card, Sniffing, LF Credentials, MFKey32 detection, Value Blocks, and APDU emulation.
MIFARE Classic key testing
MIFARE Classic sector data isn't accessible through Apple's CoreNFC — you'll need an ACR1555U/ACR1255U or Chameleon Ultra connected for dictionary-based key testing and full sector reads.
Common issues
- Tag won't read on iPhone NFC — hold the tag flat against the top edge of the phone (near the camera) and keep it still for a second; thick cases can weaken the signal.
- Reader keeps disconnecting — check the reader's battery level in the status pill; low battery causes intermittent Bluetooth drops on both the ACR and Chameleon Ultra.
- Key testing finds nothing — try a larger or custom key dictionary from your key library; default/manufacturer keys don't cover every deployed card.
